ROLE:  Technical Instructor, Outdoor Education

LOCATION: Global 

CONTRACT TERM: Program contract 

SALARY RANGE:  3,500 THB Day rate

            * Depending on experience. Portions of annual compensation are variable and performance-based.

We offer a series of leadership activities suited for students at international schools and universities, including in-school and online programs (JUMP! Schools and JUMP! Connected) and outdoor adventure trips (JUMP! Experiences and JUMP! Adventures). We facilitate participants to develop personal, community, and inter-community leadership skills.

THE CHALLENGE:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Outdoor Technical Instructor to join our program team. As the Technical Instructor, you will be responsible for leading youth through various outdoor activities and creating transformational moments in the field. This is a short term contract role that requires a strong background in outdoor education, current certifications in technical outdoor skills, and a minimum of one year of experience teaching and working with youth in the outdoors. The successful candidate will have a passion for getting youth outdoors, the ability to assess and manage risks in the outdoor environment, and experience in experiential education .



WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE

  • Work with the program director and program manager to plan, organize, and lead outdoor activity components for youth, focusing on technical outdoor skills. 
  • Reviewing and integrating JUMP! Activity specific Standard Operating Procedures across program
  • Provide instruction, guidance, and support to participants, fostering their personal growth, skill development, and self-confidence.
  • Collaborate with program staff and other team members to coordinate logistics, equipment, and resources for outdoor activities.
  • Maintain and manage equipment, ensuring its proper functioning and adherence to safety standards.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and safety guidelines related to technical outdoor skills and experiential education.
  • Maintain accurate records, including participant information, program evaluations, incident reports, and equipment inventories.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting teamwork, respect, and appreciation for nature.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE

  • Up to date and current certifications in one or more of the following outdoor skills (NB. qualifications are suggested, and we can consider equivalent-level certifications) 
  • Rock Climbing:
    •  climbing wall instructor or above
  • Kayaking: 
    • Swift Water Rescue Technician
    •  Paddle Instructor
  • Trekking: 
    • Basic Mountaineering Leader 
    • IA Assessor
  • Lifeguard Certified: 
    • Deep Water
    • Open water
    • Pool lifeguard 
  • SUP Instructor 


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of one year of teaching and working experience with youth in outdoor education or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment and management in outdoor settings, ensuring participant safety.
  • Experience working in experiential education, utilizing hands-on and immersive learning approaches.
  • Strong English language capacity, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and inspire youth.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to participate in outdoor activities and provide instruction in various weather conditions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively.

REPORTS TO:   Program Director, Thailand 


CHILD SAFEGUARDING

Applicants are expected to comply with the JUMP! Foundation’s Child Protection Policy. This includes:

  • Signing a personal declaration stating any criminal convictions, including spent convictions. 
  • Provide the name and contact information of three references (at least two professionals) they have known for no less than two years, excluding family members. These references must be included in the application form.

Successful candidates will be expected to comply with the following as a condition of employment: 

  • Both acceptance of and commitment to our Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct for working with children. 
  • Submit a formal background check before employment is gained from the candidate’s home country or most recent country of residence. Withholding a criminal record will be grounds for immediate termination.
