Overview
The Manager - Structural engineering is responsible for all the shop drawings/cutting sheets/MTO/Purchase requisitions required for fabrication. He will be managing a team of structural detailers as well as managing CBIT's 3rd party detailing/design companies. He amin role is to organize and ensure shop is supported with all necessary drawings, cutting sketches and calculation required for fabrication/erection. This position is a technical role. This position communicates with outside detailers, Engineers, Fabrication Manager and Project Managers to assure that drawings are accurate prior to releasing to the fabrication shop.
Responsibilities
- Manages structural detailing (Includes both in-house and outsourced detailing/or design) to ensure on time and correctness of release drawings and calculation.
- Focal point for all OTQ. (Outgoing Technical Queries)
- Work under the instruction of the Project Manager to complete detailing within schedule, cost and quality.
- Raise RFI's, PCN and IIN's.
- Review 3D Model.
- Advance knowledge in 3D Modelling, shop detailing and design calculation.
- Responsible in preparation/checking of material requisition for shop fabrication work.
- Support with pre-contract clarification on engineering matters and MTO.
- Prepare detailing budgets and estimates for sales department.
- Manage a combined staff of engineers, detailers and CNC programmers (cutting sketches).
- Interacts with the management, production, and sales/marketing staff to discuss project strategies, project specifications and procedures.
- Coordinate and direct the engineering and detailing activities on the projects, making specific plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
- Participate in review of project design revisions and changes. Coordinate revisions with the Client, engineers, and Fabrication team to determine constructability and to meet fabrication requirements.
- Lead the process associated with engineering change orders, as required, to recover detailing costs incurred by revisions.
- Participate in recruitment of new employees, assign tasks, direct and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of employee competence.
- Prepare detailing budgets and estimates for sales department.
- Manage effectively Department budgets, schedules and competing priorities.
- Consult or negotiate with Sales to address and meet project specific detailing requirements.
- Set practical and achievable goals for the Fabrication Engineering / Detailing Department within the outlines provided by top management.
- Communicate effectively with all departments and customers that are served by the Fabrication Engineering / Detailing Department.
- Possess knowledge and experience in the advanced use, customization, and programming of CAD based software and/or detailing systems.
