Inspecting hazardous factor in the work environment, quality of equipment or facility that used by associates. Job Description
This position is located in the Communications and Knowledge Management Section (CKMS), in the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support (ODESPS). The incumbent reports to the Chief, Communications and Knowledge Management Section.
**Responsibilities**:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Communications and Knowledge Management Section, the incumbent is required to perform the following functions:
- Ensures implementation of information programs, and coordinates with substantive divisions and Office of the Executive Secretary to prepare outreach strategies, develop overall key corporate messages and highlight priority issues for major events of ESCAP by drafting information strategies, coordinating preparation, monitoring and reporting on progress to management, taking appropriate follow-up action, and analyzing the outcome afterwards.
- Monitors and analyzes current events, public opinion and different sources of media including data analytics platforms, as well as issues and trends, and advises the Section Chief on appropriate action/responses, as well as communications tools, methods and approaches relevant to ESCAP’s priorities and programmes.
- Undertakes activities to promote media coverage (e.g. organizes press conferences, interfaces with media to arrange interviews, pitches interviews with senior ESCAP officials to media outlets, coordinates media seminars and other special activities) of priority issues and/or major events.
- Produces or oversees production of a specific type or types of communications products (e.g. press kits, press releases, feature articles, speeches, booklets, brochures, backgrounders, audio-visual materials, radio spot program, social media posts and others etc.) in alignment with ESCAP corporate identity guideline.
- Proposes topics for advocacy reports, undertakes research, identifies appropriate medium and target audience, prepares production plans, writes drafts, obtains clearances and finalizes texts, edits copy, and coordinates design approval, printing procedures and distribution.
- Prepares, on the basis of substantive, academic development-oriented material generated by ESCAP, initial drafts of press releases, annual reports, ESCAP media strategy and action plan for events/report launches, initiating proactive media outreach efforts for ESCAP activities, proposing and arranging press conferences/media coverage, disseminating materials and consulting with press on approach/story angle and other information requests, undertaking appropriate follow-up action and analyzing and reporting on the impact of coverage.
- Initiates and sustains professional relationships with key constituencies, including close collaboration with web and social media teams to develop and plan distribution of communications products online and on social media platforms.
- Acts as focal point on specific issues, monitoring and reporting on developments, responding to inquiries, etc.
- Participates in selecting the information transmitted to key constituencies.
- Provides guidance to, and may supervise, more junior staff.
