This role acts as Amazon's front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment such as stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems that include but not limited to switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet cell batteries and associated systems. Additional support equipment is included in the scope of the role which includes fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.
Key job responsibilities
* Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure. Ensure that all work performed within the space is done to high quality and without impact to internal/external customers.
* Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians to support and operate data center facilities.
* Engage in improvement projects, often requiring reaching out to a variety of support teams, and drive them from conception to completion.
* Coordinates daily with a multitude of third party vendors ensuring adherence to contracted SLAs

Job Description

As the Technician - Data Center, you will be responsible for effectively performing assigned tasks in a data center, including general datacenter, servers and network devices setup, maintenance, troubleshooting and housekeeping.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Perform weekly sweeps of server and storage equipment in the data center, detecting hardware and network connectivity issues; collect and analyze ipmi-sel data and vendor-specific platform management logs
+ Diagnose server and storage equipment connectivity issues, including basic troubleshooting of network transceiver and optical fiber signal strength problems, using tools and procedures established in the data center
+ Use collected diagnostic information to engage vendor support organizations (HPE, Dell, IX, etc.) by opening support cases and following up on hardware fixes and investigations as requested
+ Collaborate with the data center operations team to manage the logistical aspects of the break-and-fix process, including escorting vendor contractors for repairs and ensuring alignment with established operational practices
+ Oversee the logistical aspects of Return Material Authorization (RMA) processes for components such as rPDUs, network switches, and field-replaceable units (PSU, fan modules, controller modules)
+ Provide hardware support for installations, moves, additions, and changes
+ Decommission IT equipment such as HDD/SSD, networks, servers, storage, and backup devices
+ Conduct regular physical and visual inspections of equipment and data center facilities
+ Manage inventory records and perform regular cycle counts to ensure asset accuracy
+ Update documentation for structured cabling and materials during new installations
+ Oversee capacity management in terms of space, power, cooling, and patch panel port availability
+ Understand and follow incident and change management processes
+ Submit regular reports on move, change, support requests, and other activities, maintaining continuous improvement efforts
+ Perform other duties as assigned
**Qualifications:**
+ High School Degree or Equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree - IT Business or related field preferred
+ Licenses/Certificates/Designations: CCNA and CCNP preferred
+ At least 1 year experience as a Data Center Technician or IT experience in an enterprise Data Center environment with strong knowledge of data center best practices
+ Must be fluent in English
+ Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing server hardware issues from major vendors
+ Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network connectivity issues, including RJ45 copper uplinks and LC/MPO fiber uplinks
+ Good understanding of data cabling and patching
+ Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
+ Ability to respond promptly to issues, provide updates, and escalate when necessary
+ Working hours: On shift rotation, must be willing to work nights or overnight hours, with days off.

The Director, Data Center Quality Commissioning is a leadership role, responsible for leading their teams responsible for managing and implementing the commissioning process for all Global Data Center facilities on time and on budget.
The process is designed to identify and resolve issues early in the design and construction process to ensure reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness of Global Data Center projects.
This role leads their team in commissioning in-house projects and also overseeing third-party commissioning agents as they are engaged in Global Data Center projects.
**Key responsibilities:**
+ Primary responsibility for the leadership of Global Data Center commissioning projects.
+ Manages data center commissioning project delivery strategy in alignment with the road map strategy.
+ Drives the project Commissioning process including scope and schedule.
+ Ensures the development of Commissioning Procedures and Standards.
+ Refines practices/policies and develops methods/techniques for driving solutions including development of commissioning procedures.
+ Manages the contracted Commissioning Agent assigned to a Data Center construction Project.
+ Leads and provides coaching and mentorship to their broader Commissioning team(s).
+ Performs construction site inspections to review QA/QC and commissioning process.
+ Regularly reviews Construction Progress, QA/QC, Commissioning progress, issues, and KPI metrics to report to senior leadership.
+ Coordinates meetings and activities of vendor project managers including integration of lessons learned.
+ Attends scheduled owner/architect/contractor (OAC) and other project meetings, and report as necessary.
+ Responsible for the day-to-day operations of their team(s) and is responsible for coaching, mentoring, developing and motivating their team(s) to achieve key goals and objectives.

+ Significant technical Knowledge of MEP systems.
+ People manager who is also an agile team leader who is additive to the team.
+ Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
+ Ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on these systems.

+ Significant knowledge relating to critical facilities and data center construction.
+ Significant understanding of UPS systems, switchgear, generators, and critical mechanical systems.
+ Able to develop and write detailed commissioning Scripts.
+ Significant ability to influence and problem solve challenging situations.
+ Significant project management skills.
+ Significant proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Visio, MS Project.
**Academic qualifications and certifications:**
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business or Quality/Commissioning, or related field.
+ Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation from Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
**Required experience:**
+ Significant experience in a data center environment managing projects/operations.
+ Significant experience in data center commissioning.
+ Significant data center construction project management.
+ Significant experience in data center facility maintenance, operation and/or commissioning.
+ Demonstrated experience in Electrical and Mechanical Test Equipment.
