Job Purpose

The First Line Manager is a management professional with a good technical understanding of manufacturing, general or chemical engineering or food technology. First Line Manager is expected to have proficient mechanical skills and display excellent personal qualities.

The First Line Manager provides the governance function for a cluster of semi-autonomous teams, delivering management and leadership support for performance monitoring, overtime allocation, working patterns and dispute resolution. The First Line Manager retains responsibility for the Machine Operator and Basic Operators within the semi-autonomous team.

Leading improvement projects for operational processes, First Line Manager needs a strong understanding of the end-to-end manufacturing process. This includes the chemical and electro-mechanical processes and controls. She/he can interpret technical diagnostics, identify key issues, and process risks.

First Line Manager possess the leadership skills to act with speed and righteous. She/he understands the factory's financial situation and use their training in Unilever Manufacturing System methodologies to drive the semi-autonomous team's work to mitigate losses and eradicate waste. She/he will lead project work to support factory initiatives. Skills for problem solving, coaching, and innovating are central to the role.

The First Line Manager provides a common standard of communication and engagement across the factory. They liaise closely with the core factory functions, including Manufacturing, HR, Quality, Engineering, and Safety to achieve this.

The First Line Manager is responsible for leading production operations in the Mixing area of the Ice Cream manufacturing process. This role ensures the accurate preparation of mix recipes to meet quality, safety, and output standards while managing a cluster of semi-autonomous teams on the shop floor.

As the key leader in the Mixing section, you will drive performance, compliance, and continuous improvement through technical knowledge, effective governance, and people leadership—ensuring a stable, safe, and efficient operation that supports downstream freezing and packaging functions.

• Supervise Technical and Basic Operators within semi-autonomous teams, ensuring performance targets and hygiene standards are met.
• Drive loss elimination, waste reduction, and efficiency improvement using WCM (World Class Manufacturing) tools and methodologies.
• Lead equipment troubleshooting, partnering with Engineering and Maintenance teams to minimize downtime.
• Ensure safety compliance across all activities in the Mixing area (e.g. handling of allergens, CIP processes, temperature control, pressure vessels).
• Monitor and optimize material usage (ingredients, water, energy), contributing to environmental and cost-efficiency targets.
• Conduct training and coaching for operators on new processes, safety protocols, and improvement tools.
