We are currently looking for a Policy Advisor, Oil & Gas Phaseouts, to work within the IISD Energy Program.

**About the Position**

The Policy Advisor will play a key role in the team and in the Energy Program by leading some of the research and advocacy work. In particular, they will help ensure that: 1) the ideas of “no new oil and gas” and “oil and gas phaseouts” are normalized in policy and investor discourse via our work on unpacking energy scenarios and 2) commitments to end international public finance for all fossil fuels over time are adopted by an increasingly larger number of countries and institutions and implemented with integrity. They will collaborate with civil society in the Global North and South to strengthen ongoing campaigns and engage bilaterally with governments, national oil companies, public finance institutions, and investor coalitions to influence their strategic decisions. Their key areas of responsibility will include but not be limited to:

- Conducting robust policy-oriented research to support IISD in its advocacy efforts and engagements with governments, as well as its partners and the broader network of civil society organizations, in conducting effective advocacy and campaigns.
- Conducting policy advocacy, aiming to influence governments, national oil companies, public finance institutions, and investors.
- Setting up and running parts of projects, taking responsibility for delivering outputs, and achieving objectives.
- Producing policy briefs, blogs, visualizations, and other materials based on the team’s research and tailored to different target audiences (policy-makers, civil society, media).
- Networking and maintaining strategic relationships with a variety of partners from governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and others in the fields of oil and gas phaseout and public finance in particular.
- Working with IISD Communications to promote the results of the work and presenting and communicating IISD’s work to a variety of audiences.
- Contributing to research, fundraising, and strategy development, with the aim of identifying cutting-edge developments and maximizing policy impact.

**About the Successful Applicant**

The successful applicant will also have (essential):

- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., natural resource management, economics, public finance, international and development studies, political science, engineering, sociology, or interdisciplinary studies).
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in policy, research, campaigning, or advocacy with a proven track record of successful influence, ideally applied in the areas of energy policy, public or private finance, or climate change mitigation.
- Demonstrated strategic skills and an ability to think critically and learn fast.
- Confident and engaging communication skills, including an understanding of different communications approaches for different audiences.
- An understanding of policy-making in developed and developing countries.
- An understanding of climate change and its broad implications for energy systems; detailed knowledge of energy and/or public finance will be an advantage.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- A “can-do” work attitude and ability to learn fast and work both independently and in different team roles, managing workloads and producing deliverables on time and within budget.
- The ability to be results-focused, prioritize and work quickly and accurately with the flexibility to take on tasks ranging from highly complex to basic in nature.
