Role and Responsibilities:

• Review the previous drilling practice and performance including the well design & constructions, operations, bit (ROP) performance and recommend improvement.
• Review the pressure and temperature profile of the given field operations to develop the well design and construction, casing and mud-weight.
• Liaising with specialist contractors and suppliers, such as cement companies or suppliers of drilling fluids
• Work closely with Geologist/Geophysicist/Petroleum Engineer, other professionals and service provider during the planning stage to ensure the well design and trajectory are within the drillable limit, achievable and drilling process is safe and efficient
• Review and influence development of detailed procedures for drilling and completions to aid in performance and cost efficiency with ability to work in a wide range of pressures and depths
• Develop drilling programs for assigned projects in accordance with company policies and procedures
• Prepare cost estimates for drilling operations and submit to management for approval
• Supervise the daily drilling operations whether in the office and/or at site during the drilling of wells and monitor progress against the approved program
• Adjust the drilling program as necessary to achieve objectives within the approved budget
• Ensure that all reporting is factually and complete. Keep accurate records of all drilling operations, including costs, footage drilled, etc.
• Monitor and maintain equipment and supplies needed for drilling operations
• Ensure that all safety regulations are followed during drilling operations
• Investigate and resolve any problems that arise during drilling operations
• Prepare reports on drilling operations for management and stakeholder and attend meetings with clients and other stakeholders as required
• Participate in field reviews, drilling performance assessments and optimization studies
• Perform other duties as required
• Supervising and managing the drilling crew onsite, including overseeing the operation of the rig and machinery used in drilling operations
• Preparing reports regarding the drilling process including records of depth of penetration, materials encountered, and any problems encountered during drilling
• Working with geologists and geophysicists to develop drilling plans that meet the needs of the company for new wells or for recompleting existing wells
• Ensuring that drilling operations are conducted safely and efficiently by managing the drilling crew, ordering equipment repairs as needed, and making sure that all safety protocols are followed
• Providing technical advice and support to other members of the drilling team including engineers and geologists
• Adhering to environmental protection standards, in some cases through direct discussion with local governments to ensure compliance with legislative requirements. Supervising mudlogging, and wireline services personnel and monitoring quality control in relation to these services;
• Keeping detailed records, writing reports, completing daily, weekly and post-well reporting logs and sending these to appropriate departments.
• Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of MWD (measuring while drilling) tools, such as gamma and resistivity, as geosteering becomes increasingly important.
• Communicating regularly with BKK operations offices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• 10–15 years of experience in onshore drilling operations, with strong exposure to logistics and rig management.
• Proven track record in planning and executing drilling programs safely and efficiently.
• Strong understanding of well design, drilling fluids, casing design, and directional drilling.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and HSE standards.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under operational pressure.
• Strong communication and reporting skills.

Role Description

This is a contract role for a Sr. Drilling Engineer located on-site in Bangkok. The Drilling Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing drilling plans, overseeing daily drilling operations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and collaborating with other engineering teams. Additional responsibilities include analyzing drilling performance data, optimizing drilling techniques, and troubleshooting any drilling-related issues.

Drilling sites were at Nakhon Pathom and Supanburi.

Senior Drilling Engineer

The role:

• Design and optimize drilling programs for vertical, directional, and horizontal onshore wells.
• Prepare well proposals, AFEs, and detailed engineering documentation.
• Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues during drilling operations.
• Collaborate with other departments effectively, including: geoscience, reservoir, and production teams
• Oversee contractors and vendors

• Ensure the compliance with SSHE Management System, Well Management System (WMS) and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

• Provide engineering support for daily drilling operations (offshore jack-ups or floaters), including troubleshooting and technical advice during execution phase.
• Analyze drilling performance (ROP, flat time, trouble time) using historical data and real-time KPIs to identify areas for operational optimization.
• Collaborate with rig teams, service companies, and internal functions to ensure seamless execution with focus on safety, efficiency, and well objectives.
• Actively support SIMOPS planning and execution where drilling operations interface with construction, well intervention, or production activities:
• Lead risk reviews and interface meetings with relevant disciplines
• Ensure compliance with PTTEP SIMOPS protocols and procedures
• Provide engineering judgment on equipment and personnel interface risk during concurrent operations
• Participate in well planning, AFE preparation, and post-well reviews. Contribute to operational risk assessment and mitigation planning.
• Familiar with offshore drilling rig systems, including BOPs, hoisting, mud system, MPD (if applicable), and rig move logistics.
• Support preparation and review of drilling programs, daily instructions (DDIs), and end-of-well reports.
• Monitor real-time operations and proactively engage with offshore teams for technical assurance and rapid decision-making.
• Provide input to continuous improvement efforts, such as well delivery workflows, performance scorecards, and after-action reviews (AARs).
• Assist in mentoring junior engineers and promoting a culture of performance, ownership, and operational discipline.
• Ensure all activities comply with PTTEP's Well Management System and SSHE standards.

Job End Results:

• To ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of offshore drilling operations through proactive engineering support, real-time performance analysis, SIMOPS coordination, and continuous operational improvement — resulting in optimized well delivery, minimized non-productive time (NPT), and compliance with PTTEP standards and SSHE policies.

• Provide engineering design and review engineering practices and methods regarding to drilling fluids and cement
• Conduct engineering studies of new technology/methodology and optimization related to drilling fluids & cement and make technical recommendations to continually improve operations efficiency
• Provide technical advice and consultation to solve or mitigate operational problems related to drilling fluids and cement during execution phase
• Provide technical review for well operations
• Act as technical authority in responsible areas to sanction MOCs, in compliance with Well Management System, standards/guidelines/ procedures, and corporate SSHE policy
• Prepare and updates the standard instructions concerning drilling fluids and cement to ensure safe and efficient operations
• Provide input on vendor's technical pre-qualification for supply chain management function.
• Initiate bidding and/or negotiating for third party services as well as prepare and manage drilling contracts.
• Liaise with third party drilling fluids / cementing laboratories in requesting for their services for specific studies
• Review the scope of work for drilling fluids & cement when call for tender are being written.
• Review technical and cost evaluation of drilling fluids / cementing bids
• Contribute to the optimization and the cost reduction of drilling activities while maintaining a high level of safety and avoiding any pollution.
• Prepare other drilling engineering studies when necessary under the supervision of Manager and Team Leader, Drilling Engineering Section

SSHE

• Contribute to HAZID/HAZOP activities, SSHE reviews and follow-up of action items
• Ensure that high SSHE standards and technical integrity is maintained in all designs and programs
• Ensure the Drilling Program is in line with the SSHE Management System, Well Management System (WMS), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Management of Contractors and Suppliers and the local regulatory requirements and provide input for improvement as required
• Provide input for emergency response plans and risk management process by conducting risk assessments, prioritizing remedial actions and assigning owners for follow up.
