Position: Research Scientist
Team structure
This post is based at the Malaria Laboratory of the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU). MORU is a collaboration between Mahidol University and the University of Oxford, principally funded by the Wellcome Trust. MORU conducts targeted clinical trials and public health research that aim to discover and develop appropriate, affordable interventions that measurably improve the health of people living in resource-limited parts of the world. MORU's Malaria Department focuses on approaches to malaria elimination, i.e. the genetics, biology and epidemiology of antimalarial drug resistance; the treatment of multidrug resistant falciparum malaria; pathobiology; treatment and management of severe falciparum malaria; radical treatment of vivax malaria and the development of a Plasmodium vivax Controlled Human Infection Model.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with a senior postdoctoral researcher and be responsible for routine asexual and sexual malaria cell culture, biochemical and phenotypic antimalarial drug screening assays and in vitro antimalarial drug metabolism. They will contribute to data analysis and preparations of research manuscripts. In addition, there will be opportunities to join weekly scientific seminars and journal clubs across the MORU Tropical Health Network as well as participate in a variety of training courses.
A Research Scientist typically engages in advanced research and development within a specific field, such as biology, pathophysiology, pharmacodynamics, immunology etc.
The key responsibilities include:
• Contribute significantly to their field through innovative research and updates on advances in science and technology such as cell and tissue culture, cell biology, molecular biology
• Research Design: Developing experimental protocols and methodologies to explore scientific questions.
• Data Analysis: Analyzing data sets using statistical tools and techniques to derive meaningful conclusions.
• Publication: Writing and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
• Project Management: Leading research projects, scheduling, and resource management.
• Mentorship: Supervising and training junior researchers and students.
Essential
• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Biology or a related subject, plus 1–3 years of previous research laboratory experience
• Previous experience with cell culture
• Experience with biochemical cell biology or biochemistry or general drug screening
• Ability to work independently
• Proven ability to contribute to the development of new lab protocols
• Good spoken and written English
• Excellent team player and open communication
• Critical thinking
Desirable
• Prior experience with in vitro malaria work
• Experience with independent data analysis

The post is based in Bangkok at the Mahidol Oxford Research unit ).
The salary will be based on MORU scales and will depend on experience and qualifications.
The salary package includes:

About The Role
This role will require you to lead the creation of integrated, sustainable solutions to grow Kerry's Bakery business in SEA, oversee technical development for key bakery accounts (e.g., biscuits, wafers, bread, cookies, buns), ensuring product suitability and drive proactive new product development (NPD) initiatives and support team collaboration and daily operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Apply Kerry technologies, such as inclusions, enzymes, emulsifiers, flavour and other ingredients in above mentioned Baked goods.
- Upscaling of laboratory experiments to assist in industrial production in customer's premises.
- Build strong relationships with all Internal & External stakeholders ensuring smooth project management.
- Develop and maintain detailed product specifications, standards, and project timelines, any competitive analysis & shelf-life studies.
- Ensure all results are captured, recorded and filed to ensure availability for future projects.
- Develop strong relationships with bakery customers by understanding their market and dynamics. Provide them with technical knowledge, experience, and support as needed.
Qualifications And Skills
- Preferably a Bachelor's degree in Food Science & Technology, Bakery Science or a related field.
- Preferably a minimum of 5 years of experience in food product development, in the bakery industry.
- Must be familiar with food safety regulations, quality assurance practices, food laboratory, pilot plant and factory experiences
- Good Technical knowledge and operational experience of Bakery in Retail and Food as well as across various Bakery Products - Bread, Biscuits, Muffins, Cakes, etc.
- Good knowledge in Bakery Ingredients and their Application.
- High level of precision in new product development processes including development, commercialization and launch.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with various functions across the APMEA region.
- Work well in an ambiguous setting; self-motivated; proactive, and have a good willingness for continuous learning.
- Good ability to work under pressure to ensure deadlines are met, to perform consistently in a fast-paced environment by trouble shooting and problem solving.
This position requires working in both laboratory and production environments.
Traveling to production facilities, customers and industry conferences will be required.
